Curious George Party Cake

I want to say that this is a Curious George Cake, but I don't think the monkey looks like him enough. However, if you asked the birthday girl who that is on the cake, she will tell you "George!" So there you have it, a two year old knows who it is :).

The inside of the cake is a from scratch  Lemon Poppy Seed. It tasted delicious but just like the Oreo one I made (Olaf cake), it too crumbled out of the pan and I had to piece it back together. I made it work though. I covered it in yellow cream cheese frosting and then made buttercream frosting to do all the actual decorating. Adding Runts bananas onto the trees afterwards. I was pretty pleased with this cake and so happy that my birthday girl enjoyed it too.

Side note: I need central air! My kitchen was so hot after baking the cake that while I was decorating it one of the trees timbered (melted) off of the cake. Swamp coolers and hot summer days are NOT ideal for cake decorating.

Aussie Cake

My best friend turned 25 on May 19th. She once told me that she would love it if I made her a cake so what better birthday to do it on then when she turns a quarter of a century? Her mom is from Australia and she lived there herself for six months a few years back, she loves it there. So I made an Aussie themed cake for her. The flavor was chocolate with chocolate frosting (I guess that is what you would call it, it was an adaptation from an eclairs frosting recipe). It was delish and oh so adorable, see for yourself.

This is what my Koala Bear looked like
right after I made her, before gravity made
her a little tilted and stumpy...but still cute.

Frozen's Olaf cake

Everyone knows Frozen was a huge hit with the kiddos. Kasiah's birthday came right after the movie so she of course asked for a Frozen cake. I don't know about anyone else, but Olaf was my favorite character of the movie so of course I would pick him to be on a Frozen themed cake. I was very please with how the decorating part of this cake turned out, however the actual cake itself was not my best accomplishment. I made a from scratch Oreo cake with Oreo cream frosting. When I took the cake out of the oven it fell apart so my diligent helper (Noelle) and I pieced it back together. In the end it tasted already but it sure made it hard for me to be completely proud of it.

Red White and Blue Wedding Cake

No this wasn't actually a cake for a wedding, I'm not that brave yet. (Brides can be a little scary.) My sister in-law asked me to make a mini wedding cake for a co-worker's bridal shower that she was throwing. The brides colors were red, white and blue. I was a little thrown by the colors at first (I didn't want it to look like a flag), but then after searching Pinterest for ideas I was inspired. I didn't follow anyone's design that I know of, I kind of just winged it. The cake itself was lemon covered in lemon cream cheese frosting. Then I covered it all with white fondant and made the flowers out of fondant as well. Then added ribbon around the bases. I was seriously in love with the way this turned out. My sister in-law was also thrilled and said everyone loved it.

Also made some cupcakes, not too fancy.
